About Anthea

Joined the L&S Office of Undergraduate Advising in:
August 2018

What is your approach to advising?
My approach to working with students is holistic, takes into account individual learning styles, is student-centered, and solution focused. I incorporate various modalities that include career coaching, multicultural counseling, and problem solving strategies. I encourage students to think critically and develop a course of action that both enhances your academic and professional success. I genuinely enjoy working with students at various stages in your career where you may be exploring a variety of options ranging from applying to graduate school, conducting research, or applying to work in the industry. I look forward to mentoring, supporting, and witnessing your progress and mature over your time here at Cal.

Education
Psy.D. Clinical Psychology, Wright Institute, Berkeley, CA
BS, Human Development, University of California, Davis

How did you get here?
I was working at UCSF for the past 7 years in the Center for Science, Education, and Outreach providing outreach/pipeline services, advising, and program coordination for first-generation, immigrant, underserved and underrepresented high school students in the southeast sector of San Francisco. I came to Cal in October 2017 as an undergraduate major advisor in the Department of Economics to explore advising and working with undergraduate students on a different UC campus.

What advice do you have for L&S students in general?
Don’t be afraid to explore and try new classes and experiences. Be open to learning, growing, and making mistakes which can lead you to find out what you are truly interested in. It is just as important to discover what you don’t like as much as it is what you gravitate towards and are passionate about. Go for it!

About me
I love being outdoors and in nature, especially the ocean! Things I enjoy: Exercising outdoors, spending time with family and friends, cooking, eating/trying new foods, and dancing to all kinds of good, soulful music. I used to compete in triathlons for about 10 years and have made incredible lifelong friends through training and racing.
